Concerning very grave sins
In this confidential 2001 letter to the Catholic bishops of the world, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, now Pope Benedict XVI, ordered that the church's investigations into child sex abuse claims be carried out in secret and the evidence kept confidential for up to 10 years after the victims reached adulthood. Lawyers acting for abuse victims claim it implicates the pope in obstruction of justice. More
